Bearettes Drop Semifinals Of Holiday Shootout To Westlake

NAPLES, Fla. — The Bradley Central Bearettes fell to Westlake (Ga.), 71-41, on Monday evening from Barron Collier High School in the semifinals of the 2019 Naples Holiday Shootout.

Jamaryn Blair paced the Bradley (9-3) scoring with 12 points. Anna Walker recorded eight points of her own to go with a team-leading four rebounds and two steals. Cambree Mayo matched Walker’s steals with a pair of thefts and was the next leading scorer with six points and three rebounds.

Westlake (11-1) scored on the opening possession and never looked back as they used a fast attack to take a, 25-12, lead after the first quarter of play.

Bradley cut the lead back to single digits in the second with a Blair jumper with 4:49 remaining and the Lions answered with a, 9-2, run to take a 16 point lead into the half.

Westlake came out firing in the second half, continuing to stretch their lead until it reached its peak at 34 on a Kennedy Jackson 3-pointer with 2:25 to go and the Lions cruised to the 30 point victory.

Raven Johnson posted a double-double for the Georgia squad with 10 points and 13 rebounds with five assists and three steals. Brianna Turnage recorded 10 rebounds with eight points and a pair of assists and blocks. Lydia Freeman had 10 rebounds with two blocks and four points and Ta’Niya Latson poured in 18 points to lead all scorers. Latson also copped four steals, dished out three assists, and pulled down four boards for the Lions.

Westlake pulled down 20 offensive rebounds to win the battle on the glass, 49-21. The Lions outscored Bradley, 50-26, in the paint, 16-0, in second-chance scoring and, 31-6, in fast break scoring in the fast-paced contest.

Westlake shot 48.4 percent (31-for-64) overall and 4-for-14 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range. The Lions were 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from the line.

Bradley Central was 16-of-46 (34.8 percent) from the floor and hit 1-of-10 (10 percent) from distance. The Bearettes struggled from the free-throw line shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15).

With the loss, Bradley moves down to the third-place contest where they will take on Tampa Bay Technical (Fla.) who fell to Sacred Heart (Ky.) earlier in the day. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
