Bearettes Fall To Ensworth Despite Good Shooting

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearettes dropped their second game in a row to Ensworth, 76-68, on Saturday afternoon from Jim Smiddy Arena.

Anna Walker led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds to finish off a double-double to go with a pair of blocks. Jamaryn Blair and Cambree Mayo had 12 points each and Anna Muhonen threw in 11 of her own.

Blair dished out five assists and Jamia Williams had a pair of steals to pace the Bearettes.

Blair scored the game’s first bucket 12 seconds in and the Tigers answered on the next possession. Mayo hit a 3-pointer with 5:41 to go in the period to give Bradley its largest lead of the game at 9-5. Ensworth (6-0) answered with a 15-4 run to take a 20-15 lead at the end of the first.

The Tigers continued to stretch their lead in the second extending it to 10 points and a 35-25 advantage at the break.

Ensworth came out of the second half firing extending their lead to 20 with just over five minutes to go in the third. Bradley Central (4-2) then trimmed the lead to single-digits on a pair of Walker free throws with 30 seconds to go and Ensworth hit a bucket on the next play for a 55-44 edge going into the final frame.

The Bearettes continued showing their resilience cutting the lead to seven on a Muhonen layup with 20 seconds left but the Tigers hit their free throws down the stretch to hold off the comeback bid and take a 76-68 victory.
