CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The No. 1 Bradley Central Bearettes defeated Meigs County 73-40 on Monday night from Jim Smiddy Arena.
The game was designated as senior night. The Bearettes honored Alexis Barnes, Cambree Mayo, Amelia Reuter, and Anna Walker as the four seniors of the program following the game.
The four seniors have made an impact on the program recording a 119-8 record thus far making it to the state tournament twice. In the state tournament, they have reached the final four twice bringing home the first state championship to the program in 43 years their junior season.
Bradley Central (20-3) opened up the game on a 14-3 run that lasted just under six minutes into the quarter and used it to springboard to an 18-8 lead after the opening period.
The Bearettes continued extending the lead making it a 20 point advantage on an Anna Muhonen jumper with 34 seconds to go in the half. Megis County (17-8) answered with a bucket of their own just 22 seconds later and Bradley carried an 18 point lead into the half.
The Berarettes stretched their lead and outscored the Tigers 35-20 in the second half forcing a running clock on a Sloan Carpenter field goal with 2:24 to go in the game to complete the 73-40 victory.
Bradley was paced by Muhonen as she poured in a game-high 27 points on 12-of-14 shooting to go with game-highs seven rebounds and six assists. Barnes was the only other player in double digits with 13 points going 6-for-6 from the floor. Jamia Williams dished out five assists and Carpenter led the team with four steals. Barnes and Walker led the game with three blocks each.
Anna and Ella Crowder had nine points each to lead the Tigers and Anna Crowder paced the team with three rebounds. Jacelyn Stone had a team-high five assists and Megis County saw four different players record one steal. Stone was the lone Tiger to record a block.
Bradley Central dominated in the specialty areas outscoring Meigs 20-16 off turnovers, 44-22 in the paint, 11-6 in second-chance scoring, 14-6 off fast breaks, and 47-4 in bench scoring.
The Tigers shot 43.6 percent (17-for-39) from the floor and went 4-of-10 (40 percent) from 3-point range. Meigs County struggled to get to the line going 2-for-5 (40 percent) at the charity stripe.
The Bearettes shot the ball well shooting 65.2 percent (30-for-46) overall while going 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc. The hosts went 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from the free-throw line.
Bradley will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to McMinn County at 6 p.m.
