Bradley Central Takes Down Short Handed Richmond Christian

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearette basketball team claimed a, 73-25, over Richmond Christian (Va.) on Saturday morning from Jim Smiddy Arena in the semifinal round of the 2019 La Quinta Inn Thanksgiving Tournament.

Alexis Barnes and Anna Muhonen led the way with 12 points and Barnes pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Bearettes. Cambree Mayo poured in 11 points of her own and Jamaryn Blair rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 to go with six assists. Mayo and Anna Walker paced the Bearette defense with three steals each. Walker and Muhonen recorded two blocks each.

Bradley Central (3-0) scored the first four points of the game and never trailed en route to their third straight win. Richmond Christian (3-1) cut the lead to two just over two minutes into the game before the Bearettes ballooned their lead to nine four minutes later and wrapped up the first period with a, 15-9, advantage. 

The Bearettes continued extending their lead stretching their lead to 21 and took a, 38-17, advantage on a Blair jumper seconds before the halftime buzzer.

Bradley continued their ways shutting out the guests, 24-0, in the third before an unusual fourth quarter. The Warriors had a player foul out 32 seconds into the final period forcing Richmond Christian to play with only four players the rest of the way. The Bearettes used the advantage outscoring their opponents, 11-8, in the final period.

Prophet Sheffield led the Warrior offense with 15 points and Ta’Nya Outten pulled down nine rebounds.

Bradley Central scored 20 points off 16 Warrior turnovers and outscored them 38-6 in the paint. The Bearettes had 16 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds and had 30 bench points in a game that saw all 15 Bearettes get into the game.

Bradley won the battle of the boards, 49-25, and recorded 15 assists on 26 made buckets.

Richmond Christian went 7-of-41 (17.1 percent) overall and 2-for-14 (14.3 percent) from distance. The Warriors shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the free-throw line.

Bradley shot 44.8 percent (26-for-58) from the floor but was a tough 5-for-22 (22.7 percent) from 3-point range. The Bearettes was 16-of-24 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe.

Bradley Central will now take on East Hamilton in the championship later Saturday night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
