Bradley Corals Lady Mustangs With 79-18 Win

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The top-ranked Bradley Central Bearettes dismantled Walker Valley in a 79-18 thrashing on Friday evening from Jim Smiddy Arena.

Anna Walker paced the Bearette offense with 15 points. Junior Anna Muhonen rounded out double-digit scorers with 13. Jamia Williams recorded a team-high seven assists and four steals to go with nine points. Hannah Jones pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to go with nine points while shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor.

Bradley Central (19-3, 9-0 District 5 AAA) took the first 25 points of the contest and never looked back. The rout was officially on as Muhonen hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer of the first from a Sloan Carpenter pass to give the Bearettes a 30-3 lead after one.

Walker Valley (8-16, 2-6 District 5 AAA) battled in the second only being outscored 15-10 and Bradley went into the locker room up 32.

The third quarter was the Bearettes quarter, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 21-0 in the period to force the mercy rule for all of the fourth. 

The fourth looked like a bright future for the hosts as both teams emptied their benches and the Bearettes continued to outscore the visitors 13-5 in the final period to wrap up the 79-18 win.

Bradley controlled every facet of the game outrebounding Walker 50-22, including 21 offensive boards. The Bearettes forced 26 Lady Mustangs turnovers and outscored their counterparts 40-4 in points off turnovers. The hosts also outscored Walker Valley in the paint (38-6), in second-chance scoring (28-3), fast-break opportunities (21-3), and bench scoring (30-4).

Madison Jaynes led the Lady Mustangs with five points in the contest. Five different Walker players recorded three rebounds and Cayce Davis recorded both assists for the squad. Michele Benson led the northern county team with three steals.

Walker Valley shot a poor 14.7 percent (5-for-34) from the floor and hit 1-of-9 (11.1 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Mustangs struggled from the free-throw line going 7-for-16 (43.8 percent).

The Bearettes went 29-for-61 (47.5 percent) overall and 8-of-24 (33.3 percent) from the beyond the arc. Bradley Central shot 65.0 percent (13-for-20) from the charity stripe.

The Bearettes will be back in action on Monday as they take on Meigs County at 6 p.m. The game will serve as senior night as Bradley Central will recognize its four seniors in between the girls’ and boys’ games.
