Bradley Holds On For Win Over East Hamilton

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearettes held on for a 58-50 win over district foe East Hamilton on Tuesday night from East Hamilton High School.

The Hurricanes cut the lead to four with 33 seconds left and the hosts were forced to foul to stop the clock. Cambree Mayo stepped up the line and hit both free-throws to put the Bearettes up six. East Hamilton (11-11, 4-3 District 5 AAA) missed two shots on the next possession before the guests came up with the rebound and Mayo hit a pair at the line again with five seconds to go and Bradley Central (16-3, 7-0 District 5 AAA) held on for the 58-50 victory.

Anna Muhonen posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Anna Walker was the leading scorer for the Bearettes with 15 points of her own and Alexis Barnes threw in 14 for the cause.

Jamaryn Blair led the team with six assists and three steals in her first game back after missing a pair of games.

The two teams got the game started going back-and-forth with Bradley grabbing a pair of five-point leads off Mayo 3-pointers. East Ham slowly chipped away at both leads and evened the score at 13 on a Madison Hayes jumper with 14 seconds left and Barnes hit a layup at a buzzer to take a two-point advantage after one quarter.

The two teams were even in the second exchanging runs throughout the period. Hayes gave the Hurricanes a short lead on an old fashioned 3-point play and Barnes answered with a layup just 18 seconds later from a Blair pass to jumpstart a 6-0 spurt. Hayes evened things at 23 with 2:10 to go and this time it was Muhonen who gave the Bearettes the two-point halftime lead.

East Ham quickly claimed a one-point lead with an Eliziah Laboo 3-pointer for the first basket of the second half and Walker responded with a 3-point shot of her own to give Bradley the lead again. Hayes once again evened things out at 33 with a pair of free-throws and the Bearettes scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 38-33 lead into the final quarter.

Bradley Central slowly began to stretch the lead out in the fourth taking their largest lead of the contest on a Muhonen layup from a Blair pass to take a 12 point advantage with 3:08 to go in the game. East Ham then slowly cut the lead before the Bearettes were able to hold on for an eight-point victory.

Hayes led all players with 25 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds with a team-high five steals. Eliziah Laboo rounded out the Hurricane double-digit scorers with 10 points. Dezah Lacy led the team with six assists.

East Ham shot 40.5 percent (17-for-42) overall and 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point distance. The Hurricanes were 11-for-14 (78.6 percent) from the charity stripe.

The two teams were practically even as the Bearettes went 18-for-45 (40 percent) from the floor and 6-for-17 (35.5 percent) from behind the arc. Bradley shot 16-for-24 (66.7 percent) from the line.

The Bearettes will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Decatur to take on Meigs County in a non-district contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
