Bradley Season Comes To Close In State Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearettes season came to a close with a 51-42 loss to Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Alexis Barnes put up 17 points in her final game as a Bearette to lead the team and matched Sloan Carpenter, Ashlan Crittenden, and Makenna Miles with three rebounds each. Carpenter, Anna Muhonen, and Hannah Jones had two assists apiece and Cambree Mayo came up with two steals to pace the squad.

Barnes proved to be effective shooting in the contest going 5-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

In a contest that looked like it would mirror the previous year, the two teams struggled to put up points in the first quarter. Lebanon (31-6) struck first with a three nearly two minutes into the contest. Bradley Central (29-4) got on the scoreboard with a Muhonen free-throw with 3:23 left in the period.

After going back and forth for the remainder of the quarter Barnes converted a conventional 3-point play and Bradley trailed 7-6 at the end of one.

The second quarter looked similar as the see-saw affair continued with Lebanon taking a three-point advantage into the break.

The Devilettes took advantage of a shorthanded bench of the Bearettes using a 12-2 run to open the second half and take a 13-point lead with 3:05 to go in the frame. Bradley cut the lead to 11 with a Jones 3-pointer heading into the fourth.

The Bearettes cut the lead to single digits in the fourth with a Carpenter three 18 seconds into the final period. Crittenden trimmed the lead to six on a 3-point shot with 4:26 to go but couldn’t draw it any closer as Lebanon held on for the 51-42 win.

Addie Porter paced the Devilettes with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Alissa Mulaski was the only other scorer in double digits with 11.

Bradley outscored their opponents 20-18 in the paint and 15-10 in bench scoring.

Lebanon shot 42.9 percent (15-for-35) from the floor and 6-of-16 (37.5 percent) from 3-point range. The Devilettes shot 15-for-18 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Bearettes went 14-of-38 (36.8 percent) overall and 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc. Bradley ended the game 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
