KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearettes wrapped up the 2019 Five Star Preps Classic with a, 50-25, win over Farragut on Friday night in the gym of Farragut High School.
Anna Walker and Anna Muhonen combined for 37 points in the post position to lead the charge. Walker recorded her second straight double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, six on the offensive boards while blocking three shots and recording three steals. Muhonen had 16 points to go with eight rebounds and a block.
The Bearettes held the hosts to only nine field goals as Bradley Central (8-2) held their opponent’s in the twenties for their second straight game. Farragut’s (11-2) 25 points tied the lowest output by a Bradley opponent this season.
The Bearettes opened up the game with a, 7-0, run with a pair of Muhonen layups and a Cambree Mayo 3-pointer just under two and a half minutes in. Claire Wyatt then hit the Admiral’s first bucket of the game with 4:01 to go and Bradley answered with an, 8-2, spurt to wrap up the first quarter with a 15-5 lead.
Bradley continued to stretch their lead in the second doubling up the Farragut score in the to win the quarter 14-7. The Admirals got the first basket of the quarter and the Bearettes responded with a, 12-0, run to stretch their lead to 19. Both teams traded buckets to end the quarter and Bradley Central went into the halftime break up 29-12.
Muhonen proved to be a force to handle in the opening half scoring 14 of her 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor in the first two quarters to go with four rebounds and her block. The junior post also went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in the first half.
The third was the same story as the Bearettes held Farragut to four points on two field goals and Bradley stretched their lead to 25 on a Walker three to head into the fourth with a 41-16 advantage.
Kelsey Carman hit a layup off a Walker assist with 2:25 left in the game to get their largest lead of the game up 30 before emptying the bench and wrapping up the game with a 50-25 victory.
Wyatt paced the Farragut offense with eight points while pulling down eight boards. Macy Barnes was the next leading scorer with seven.
The game was all Bradley as they outscored the Admirals off turnovers (16-3), in the paint (28-6), in second-chance scoring (18-8), on fast breaks (8-5), and bench scoring (5-4).
The Bearettes won the battle on the boards 40-28 while recording 11 assists on 18 made baskets and forcing 16 turnovers.
Farragut struggled to get the ball in the hole shooting 9-for-38 (23.7 percent) overall and 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) from 3-point range. The Admirals went 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from the charity stripe.
Bradley Central was 18-of-53 (34 percent) from the floor and struggled from 3-point distance going 4-of-22 (18.2 percent). The Bearettes were 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the free-throw line.
Bradley will be back in action as they travel down to Naples, Florida to take on the field of the 2019 Naples Holiday Shootout. The Bearettes are slated to take on St. Rose (N.J.) in the opening round at 9 a.m.
