2020 Collegiate Round Up

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Bradley Central Bearettes have a storied past with former players going on to play well at the collegiate ranks. Today we look back at former Bearettes who are currently playing at the college level.

Currently, two former players are playing at the higher level. Halle Hughes wrapped up her junior season at Lee University while Rhyne Howard finished her sophomore year at the University of Kentucky.

Halle Hughes wrapped up her junior season appearing in all 30 games for the Lady Flames averaging close to 19 minutes a game and 2.9 points to go with 3.5 rebounds per game. Hughes dished out 35 assists, 14 steals, and five blocks on the year while shooting 34.1 percent (28-of-82) from the floor and 22-for-27 (81.5 percent) from the free-throw line.

The junior guard posted a career-high 13 points in the Lee conference semifinal game against Delta State on Mar. 7, while also posting season high’s in field goals made (5), 3-point field goals made (2), and steals (2).

Rhyne Howard had another successful year at the University of Kentucky being on the watchlist for multiple national awards and being named the SEC Player of the Year all while becoming Kentucky’s second-fastest player to reach 1,000 points using only 53 games to do so.

The sophomore guard started 27 games while averaging 23.4 points per game to go with 6.5 rebounds. Howard dished out 66 assists and shot 43.3 percent (212-for-490) on the year and 38.2 percent (84-for-220) from 3-point range. The SEC player of the year shot 79.1 percent (125-for-158) from the charity stripe all while copping 62 steals and blocking 29 shots.

Howard used a huge game at Alabama on Jan. 9 posting a season-high 43 points while making a season-high seven 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats to an 81-71 road win.
